St Barnabas Choir

St Barnabas Choir and Barney’s Singers
present their own version of ‘ Hallelujah’
on Christmas Eve

Calling all music lovers!  Do you enjoy the occasional song under the shower or annoy the family by singing along to the radio while you’re driving? Why not sing where you will be appreciated. There’s no need for formal music training, a voice like Pavarotti or the ability to read music.

St Barnabas choir meets once a week to practice then sings during the 9 am service each Sunday. We would love to hear from you.

Our Choir:-

  • supports the congregation with the singing of hymns and responses during the sung Eucharist at 9am each Sunday.
  • presents during communion, hymns which are selected to help those who are receiving communion to focus on the symbols and their meaning.
  • presents anthems and other special pieces of music at Easter, Christmas and other significant dates on the church’s calendar.

The music selected ranges from traditional hymns to choruses of praise and more modern hymns which are featured every fortnight at our Family Services.

During 2011 an extended group ‘Barney’s Singers’ was created to cater for a wider age group and in particular members who cannot commit to weekly practices but instead attend on the third Thursday of each month. Members of this group are currently aged eight to Seniors.

Accompaniment is usually by Organ or Keyboard but guitar and other instruments are incorporated where appropriate.

Practice sessions are held in the church of a Thursday evening from 7.30 to approximately 8.45 pm.

During Winter months (June to August) these are fortnightly while for the rest of the year weekly practices apply. The choir goes into recess during the Christmas school holidays. While the choir dresses uniformly there is no need to purchase expensive clothing.

2013 promises to be a great year for us musically. Why not join in? For further details please contact Jack Files via the Parish Office on 07 3345 1535
